Competition Levels

Note: We’re trying to stay flexible and intuitive with these definitions. Lindy Hop and Jazz Dance competitions are not so codified and we think that’s a good thing!

Newcomer

Welcome!

The spirit of this level is to encourage folks who are new to the experiences of competing, improvised performance, and dancing in the spotlight to try it out and become familiar with common Lindy Hop competition/contest formats.

If you have never entered a Lindy Hop competition or have only entered one or two times before, this competition level is probably for you! If you have ever made finals in a competition at a large-ish Lindy Hop festival/weekend/camp, this level is probably not for you.

Open

This level is open to everybody! No limitations on whether you have won anything or taught anywhere before.

If you have recently started dancing a secondary role and want to compete in it, but have been dancing/competing in your primary role for Quite Some Time, this level might still be for you over the Newcomer level.

Feel free to contact us at tracktownthrowdown@gmail.com if you aren’t sure which level will be best for you!
